Epistle

Heb 7.18-25

Read in context

Brethren,

18For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof.

19For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope [did]; by the which we draw nigh unto God.

20And inasmuch as not without an oath [he was made priest]:

21(For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by him that said unto him, The Lord sware and will not repent, Thou [art] a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec:)

22By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.

23And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death:

24But this [man], because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.

25Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

Epistle — St Anna

Gal 4.22-31

Read in context

Brethren,

22For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman.

23But he [who was] of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman [was] by promise.

24Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.

25For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.

26But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.

27For it is written, Rejoice, [thou] barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband.

28Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.

29But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him [that was born] after the Spirit, even so [it is] now.

30Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.

31So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free.

Gospel

Luke 21.37-22.8

Read in context

At that time, Jesus in the daytime

21:37And in the day time he was teaching in the temple; and at night he went out, and abode in the mount that is called [the mount] of Olives.

21:38And all the people came early in the morning to him in the temple, for to hear him.

22:1Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover.

22:2And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill him; for they feared the people.

22:3Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.

22:4And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them.

22:5And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money.

22:6And he promised, and sought opportunity to betray him unto them in the absence of the multitude.

22:7Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed.

22:8And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat.

Gospel — St Anna

Luke 8.16-21

Read in context

The Lord said:

16No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth [it] under a bed; but setteth [it] on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light.

17For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither [any thing] hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.

18Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have.

19Then came to him [his] mother and his brethren, and could not come at him for the press.

20And it was told him [by certain] which said, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to see thee.

21And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.
