A study companion built around a multilingual Bible, the Orthodox liturgical calendar, daily readings, saints, and personal notes.

Bible source text was downloaded from the scrollmapper/bible_databases repository on GitHub and ingested into the SQLite modules that ship with the site.

The movable and fixed cycles, daily readings, pericopes, saints, and commemorations were ingested from the Django fixtures in orthocal-python by Brian Glass.

orthocal-python is distributed under the MIT License; the upstream copyright notice is preserved with the shipped data.

A few daily readings come from the source as ‘composite’ pericopes — English-only prose stitched together from many verses. So the passage can be shown in any of the included Bible translations, this app substitutes a hand-derived verse selection for four of these composites. The original is a paraphrase, so the selection is approximate; affected readings are flagged in the list.

The portrait shown with each saint is a stylised illustration produced by an AI image model (Google Gemini 2.5 Flash Image, commonly known as “Nano Banana”).

These are not traditional icons and should not be venerated or treated as canonical iconography — they are decorative visual aids only.

All images follow a shared style guide — aged gold background, restrained iconographic palette, halo behind the head — for visual consistency. The model may misrepresent likeness, garments, or attributes; when in doubt the biography text is authoritative.

No analytics, no advertising, no third-party tracking cookies. The only data stored in your browser is what the app itself needs.
