Epistle

1 Cor 16.4-12

Read in context

Brethren,

4And if it be meet that I go also, they shall go with me.

5Now I will come unto you, when I shall pass through Macedonia: for I do pass through Macedonia.

6And it may be that I will abide, yea, and winter with you, that ye may bring me on my journey whithersoever I go.

7For I will not see you now by the way; but I trust to tarry a while with you, if the Lord permit.

8But I will tarry at Ephesus until Pentecost.

9For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and [there are] many adversaries.

10Now if Timotheus come, see that he may be with you without fear: for he worketh the work of the Lord, as I also [do].

11Let no man therefore despise him: but conduct him forth in peace, that he may come unto me: for I look for him with the brethren.

12As touching [our] brother Apollos, I greatly desired him to come unto you with the brethren: but his will was not at all to come at this time; but he will come when he shall have convenient time.

Epistle — St Panteleimon

2 Tim 2.1-10

Read in context

My son Timothy,

1Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

2And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

3Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

4No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of [this] life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.

5And if a man also strive for masteries, [yet] is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.

6The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits.

7Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.

8Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:

9Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, [even] unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.

10Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

Gospel

Matt 21.28-32

Read in context

The Lord said this parable:

28But what think ye? A [certain] man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard.

29He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went.

30And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I [go], sir: and went not.

31Whether of them twain did the will of [his] father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.

32For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen [it], repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.

Gospel — St Panteleimon

John 15.17-16.2

Read in context

The Lord said to His disciples:

15:17These things I command you, that ye love one another.

15:18If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before [it hated] you.

15:19If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

15:20Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.

15:21But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me.

15:22If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin.

15:23He that hateth me hateth my Father also.

15:24If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father.

15:25But [this cometh to pass], that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.

15:26But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, [even] the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

15:27And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.

16:1These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.

16:2They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.
