Epistle

Col 1.18-23

Read in context

Brethren, Christ

18And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all [things] he might have the preeminence.

19For it pleased [the Father] that in him should all fulness dwell;

20And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, [I say], whether [they be] things in earth, or things in heaven.

21And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in [your] mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled

22In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:

23If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and [be] not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, [and] which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;

Gospel

Luke 6.46-7.1

Read in context

The Lord said:

6:46And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

6:47Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:

6:48He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.

6:49But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.

7:1Now when he had ended all his sayings in the audience of the people, he entered into Capernaum.
