9Let all the nations be gathered together, and let the people be assembled: who among them can declare this, and shew us former things? let them bring forth their witnesses, that they may be justified: or let them hear, and say, [It is] truth.

10Ye [are] my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I [am] he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.

11I, [even] I, [am] the LORD; and beside me [there is] no saviour.

12I have declared, and have saved, and I have shewed, when [there was] no strange [god] among you: therefore ye [are] my witnesses, saith the LORD, that I [am] God.

13Yea, before the day [was] I [am] he; and [there is] none that can deliver out of my hand: I will work, and who shall let it?

14Thus saith the LORD, your redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; For your sake I have sent to Babylon, and have brought down all their nobles, and the Chaldeans, whose cry [is] in the ships.

12But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute [you], delivering [you] up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name's sake.

13And it shall turn to you for a testimony.

14Settle [it] therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye shall answer:

15For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.

16And ye shall be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends; and [some] of you shall they cause to be put to death.

17And ye shall be hated of all [men] for my name's sake.

18But there shall not an hair of your head perish.

19In your patience possess ye your souls.

6:20For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

7:1Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: [It is] good for a man not to touch a woman.

7:2Nevertheless, [to avoid] fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.

7:3Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband.

7:4The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife.

7:5Defraud ye not one the other, except [it be] with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.

7:6But I speak this by permission, [and] not of commandment.

7:7For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.

7:8I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I.

7:9But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.

7:10And unto the married I command, [yet] not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from [her] husband:

7:11But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to [her] husband: and let not the husband put away [his] wife.

7:12But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away.

28And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to [his] purpose.

29For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate [to be] conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

30Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

31What shall we then say to these things? If God [be] for us, who [can be] against us?

32He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

33Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? [It is] God that justifieth.

34Who [is] he that condemneth? [It is] Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? [shall] tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

36As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

37Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

38For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

39Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

1At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus,

2And said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.

3For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put [him] in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife.

4For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her.

5And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.

6But when Herod's birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod.

7Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask.

8And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist's head in a charger.

9And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath's sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded [it] to be given [her].

10And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison.

11And his head was brought in a charger, and given to the damsel: and she brought [it] to her mother.

12And his disciples came, and took up the body, and buried it, and went and told Jesus.

13When Jesus heard [of it], he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart: and when the people had heard [thereof], they followed him on foot out of the cities.

15:17These things I command you, that ye love one another.

15:18If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before [it hated] you.

15:19If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

15:20Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.

15:21But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me.

15:22If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin.

15:23He that hateth me hateth my Father also.

15:24If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father.

15:25But [this cometh to pass], that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.

15:26But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, [even] the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

15:27And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.

16:1These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.

16:2They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.
