1Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.Log in to add notes

2For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.Log in to add notes

3For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.Log in to add notes

4For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.Log in to add notes

5And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.Log in to add notes

6Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:Log in to add notes

7Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.Log in to add notes

8For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.Log in to add notes

9There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.Log in to add notes

10For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.Log in to add notes

11Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.Log in to add notes

12For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.Log in to add notes

13Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.Log in to add notes

22For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman.Log in to add notes

23But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise.Log in to add notes

24Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.Log in to add notes

25For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.Log in to add notes

26But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.Log in to add notes

27For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband.Log in to add notes

28Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.Log in to add notes

29But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now.Log in to add notes

30Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.Log in to add notes

31So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free.Log in to add notes

12But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name’s sake.Log in to add notes

14Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye shall answer:Log in to add notes

15For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.Log in to add notes

16And ye shall be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death.Log in to add notes

16No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light.Log in to add notes

17For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.Log in to add notes

18Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have.Log in to add notes

19Then came to him his mother and his brethren, and could not come at him for the press.Log in to add notes

20And it was told him by certain which said, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to see thee.Log in to add notes

21And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.Log in to add notes
