To Timothy, my dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.Log in to add notes

Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;Log in to add notes

Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,Log in to add notes

But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:Log in to add notes

Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.Log in to add notes

For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.Log in to add notes

Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.Log in to add notes

That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.Log in to add notes

This thou knowest, that all they which are in Asia be turned away from me; of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.Log in to add notes

The Lord give mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus; for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain:Log in to add notes

But, when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found me.Log in to add notes

The Lord grant unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day: and in how many things he ministered unto me at Ephesus, thou knowest very well.Log in to add notes

Epistle — St Anna

Galatians 4.22-31

Read in context

For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman.Log in to add notes

But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise.Log in to add notes

Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.Log in to add notes

For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.Log in to add notes

But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.Log in to add notes

For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband.Log in to add notes

Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.Log in to add notes

But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now.Log in to add notes

Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.Log in to add notes

So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free.Log in to add notes
