Epistle

1 Corinthians 11.8-22

Read in context

8For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man.Log in to add notes

9Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.Log in to add notes

10For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels.Log in to add notes

11Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord.Log in to add notes

12For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things of God.Log in to add notes

13Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered?Log in to add notes

14Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?Log in to add notes

15But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.Log in to add notes

16But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.Log in to add notes

17Now in this that I declare unto you I praise you not, that ye come together not for the better, but for the worse.Log in to add notes

18For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it.Log in to add notes

19For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you.Log in to add notes

20When ye come together therefore into one place, this is not to eat the Lord’s supper.Log in to add notes

21For in eating every one taketh before other his own supper: and one is hungry, and another is drunken.Log in to add notes

22What? have ye not houses to eat and to drink in? or despise ye the church of God, and shame them that have not? What shall I say to you? shall I praise you in this? I praise you not.Log in to add notes

Epistle — St Anna

Galatians 4.22-31

Read in context

22For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman.Log in to add notes

23But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise.Log in to add notes

24Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.Log in to add notes

25For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.Log in to add notes

26But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.Log in to add notes

27For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband.Log in to add notes

28Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.Log in to add notes

29But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now.Log in to add notes

30Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.Log in to add notes

31So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free.Log in to add notes

Gospel

Matthew 17.10-18

Read in context

10And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come?Log in to add notes

11And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things.Log in to add notes

12But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.Log in to add notes

13Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.Log in to add notes

14And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying,Log in to add notes

15Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.Log in to add notes

16And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.Log in to add notes

17Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.Log in to add notes

18And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.Log in to add notes

16No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light.Log in to add notes

17For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.Log in to add notes

18Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have.Log in to add notes

19Then came to him his mother and his brethren, and could not come at him for the press.Log in to add notes
