Epistle

1 Timothy 3.1-13

Read in context

1This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.Log in to add notes

2A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;Log in to add notes

3Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;Log in to add notes

4One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;Log in to add notes

5(For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)Log in to add notes

6Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.Log in to add notes

7Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.Log in to add notes

8Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;Log in to add notes

9Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.Log in to add notes

10And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless.Log in to add notes

11Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.Log in to add notes

12Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.Log in to add notes

13For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.Log in to add notes

Epistle — St Anna

Galatians 4.22-31

Read in context

22For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman.Log in to add notes

23But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise.Log in to add notes

24Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.Log in to add notes

25For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.Log in to add notes

26But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.Log in to add notes

27For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband.Log in to add notes

28Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.Log in to add notes

29But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now.Log in to add notes

30Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.Log in to add notes

31So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free.Log in to add notes

29And he spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees;Log in to add notes

30When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand.Log in to add notes

31So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand.Log in to add notes

32Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled.Log in to add notes

33Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.Log in to add notes
